What We Thought3/5
Evil Dead Burn does very little to tie itself to the older Evil Dead movies, making it feel more like its own horror movie than a continuation of what came before. Longtime fans looking for stronger connections to the franchise may be disappointed by that.
I found the mystery surrounding the setup a little confusing at first, although the movie eventually answers those questions instead of leaving everything unexplained. Once things get going, the movie leans heavily into possessed people terrorizing a family, with plenty of gore and graphic violence along the way. That's where the movie is at its strongest, and gore fans should find plenty of memorable moments.
The story itself didn't give me much to get excited about. Nothing about it really grabbed me or made the movie stand out.
The 4K UHD presentation with Dolby Vision delivers a clear picture with good detail, and that detail holds up well throughout the movie's many dark scenes. Some of the effects didn't really thrill me, but the presentation itself looks good. The Dolby Atmos track is even better, creating an immersive soundscape that pulls you into what's happening.
The gore and the 4K presentation carry this one. The story doesn't.
