What We Thought3.5/5
Shrek gets 3.5 out of 5 from me. This is the 25th Anniversary 4K, and the new Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos are the real selling points. The 4K with Dolby Vision looks great — a very clear, vibrant, and bright picture. The animation itself is very dated, though, and feels pretty basic by today's standards. The Dolby Atmos track sounds great, and in a few scenes it really pushes your speakers and makes you feel like you are in the midst of all the action. The movie is a very cute love story about an ogre and a princess, sprinkled with different fairy tale stories along the way, making it a very strong choice for younger viewers. It is supposed to be funny — that is why it stars Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy — but for me the comedy was never very funny and felt more suitable for kids.
