📝 Written Review
Hello movie lovers!
So here we are with The Senior, the inspirational football drama that proves you’re never too old to chase your dreams… unless that dream is beating college kids at wind sprints, in which case—good luck. Big thanks to Angel for sending me a streaming link for review.
Synopsis
This one is based on the true story of Mike Flynt. Nearly four decades after being kicked off his team, Mike returns to his alma mater to take the hit that changed everything. Bruised, doubted, and nearly broken, he fights for one last shot at the ending he believes is still possible.
At 59 years old, Flynt became one of the oldest players in college football history. It’s about redemption, family, and proving that second chances aren’t just for Hollywood scripts.
Main Review
Now, how much of this is actually true? That’s the million-dollar question. The movie itself feels a little too perfect, like the football version of a fairy tale. While it’s true that Mike returned to play, some details—like out-performing teammates half his age and bouncing back from injuries mid-season—feel more like movie magic than documentary accuracy.
But that’s kind of the point. This movie isn’t really about X’s and O’s, it’s about second chances. It’s about Mike owning up to past mistakes—on the field and off—and stepping into the role of leader and father figure he was always meant to be.
Think of it less Friday Night Lights and more Friday Night Life Lessons.
The religious themes are definitely present, but they’re lighter than I expected. Instead of going full sermon, the film leans more on the inspirational “believe in yourself and keep pushing forward” vibe. That makes it more accessible—even if you’re not a football fan or faith-driven viewer.
Performance-wise, the cast sells it well enough, even if some of the football scenes feel a little polished. Still, I’ll admit—I enjoyed it. It got me rooting for Mike, even if I raised an eyebrow at just how spry a 59-year-old rookie looked out there.
Final Thoughts
At the end of the day, The Senior is less about football glory and more about personal redemption. It’s inspiring, it’s heartfelt, and even when it strains credibility, it still works as a feel-good story.
I’m giving this one a 3 out of 5.
So if you’re in the mood for some late-game inspiration, this might be your playbook. And hey—if Mike can take the field again at 59, I guess I have no excuse for skipping the gym tomorrow.
